Free SMS FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)
I’ve been collecting free sms text messaging sites since 2001 and putting them on TextMeFree.com . These free texting sites have let people send text messages to UK, USA, Australia, New Zealand, Pakistan, Poland, and even some countries in Africa.
Of course the millions of TextMeFree.com visitors have asked a few questions in that time. I hope to answer the main questions, below, but if there’s anything you think I’ve missed then please do contact me.
Question 1) How do I send free sms?
Simply put, you need to do the following:
- Decide who you want to send messages to
- Find a site that sends free sms to the country that person lives in
- Register at the site, if necessary
- Send your message (includes formatting the cellphone number correctly first e.g. UK 07123 456789 usually gets entered as 447123456789
- Check for a delivery report if the site provides one. (Sometimes the messages do not make it through.)
Question 2) How Many Free SMS Can I Send?
It all depends where your friends live in the world and which free sms site you are using. Some free sms sites have quotas, and some do not e.g. Wadja.com
In theory you can send an unlimited amount of free sms, as you could just find another service once your quota has run out, but it doesn’t always work out like that.
Check the free sms site you’re using to find out exactly how many you can send. FreeTextSMS.net and TextMeFree.com do provide general guidelines, however.
Question 3) Does it cost anything to send free sms?
It shouldn’t cost you anything to send a free text message, unless you sign up for a weekly subscription (this should be made clear on the site). Boltblue.com is an example of a subscription free sms service.
It should not cost people to receive sms messages either, but it might. Check with your friends, first, I guess. (Send them an email.)
An example of a free sms service to avoid, in my humble opinion, is sms-txt.co.uk which gives people ‘the option to pay £5 to read the message’! :-O
Question 4) What Are The Best Free SMS Sites, Online?
Well without having to duplicate my words here, I’ve created a page of sites that I think are the best. You’ll find this page on TextMeFree.com at http://www.textmefree.com/best-free-sms.html
The quick answer, again in my humble opinion, is Wadja.com
Question 5) Why Can’t I Send Free Text Messages, Online?
Usually this is because you can’t find a free sms site to your country. The only way to solve this problem is to find a worldwide free sms site. Ahem! That means checking out the services at FreeTextSMS.net :-)
But not all countries or cellphone services allow for free sms. Sorry. Nothing I can do about that. Why don’t you try out the services at FreeTextSMS.net and then go over to Yahoo! Answers to see if anyone else can help you.
Countries difficult to send free sms include, to my knowledge, most African countries, UAE, China and The Philippines. This changes all the time, though.
Question 6) How do I stop receiving abusive text messages?
Sometimes small minded people send unfriendly text messages. Sometimes these messages are so unpleasant and nasty that the police get involved. Really, the police get involved.
Those sms services where you have to register to use them keep a log of what messages are being sent. These services report abuse where necessary and usually ban the abusers.
In these cases, you just need to know which service has been used. Sometimes it’s not obvious. For example, messages that end in TextMeFree.com are actually sent from a service called Fonetastic. You need to report the abuse to Fonetastic.
Messages that come from Wadja.com are also obvious, and even say who sent the text message.
There are many services that let you use them without registering. It is difficult to track down abuses in these cases, but I’m sure it’s possible.

One thing to note, though: It is NOT my fault, nor the fault of FreeTextSMS.net or TextMeFree.com. Neither I nor those websites operate a free sms service. They are simply lists of free sms services made available to you, for free.

Question 7) How do I stop receiving messages?
I think you’re a member of a particular free sms site with terms and conditions of membership that say they can send you lots of marketing messages and such like. You just have to unsubscribe from this service - sending STOP or STOP ALL or discontinue your membership via their website.
If it doesn’t then you should complain about the service to your phone network provider perhaps, or visit http://www.grumbletext.co.uk/ to see what others are doing about this problem.
One service that many have complained about, for example, is sms.ac
I don’t know if this is a bad service or not, but I do know that many have complained about it.
THANKS.
That’s the end of the free sms FAQs. Hope they proved helpful to you.
