TxtDrop is a completely free sms text messaging service that is extremely simple to use, for worldwide texting.
There is no need to register just go to their website and complete the form with your sms message.
You do need to know the mobile phone service provider (carrier) of the mobile you are texting though.
If you’re a Mac user, download their Free Text Messaging Widget for Mac OS X which lets you send free sms to the US and Canada from your desktop.

txtDrop supports lots of countries, but I have been unable to verify that this service works in UK.

wadja.com is one of the only websites that support south africa!
